FAQ's

Q:  How much will it cost?
A:   This depends on many factors and depends on size, temperament, what service is being performed, and the condition of the dog’s skin and coat. For example, a thoroughly matted dog in for a bath & brush out would cost slightly more than a dog who is not matted and receiving the same service. Please see my “Prices” section on the Services page for more details on pricing.

Q:  I don’t have time to bring my dog to you.  Can you pick up my dog?
A:   Yes, I offer a pickup and delivery service. The cost is $10 extra in town, and $15 within 15kms of city limits. This cost includes BOTH pickup and delivery. You may also drop off your dog yourself and have him/her delivered back to you for only $5. ($10 within 15kms of city limits)

Q:  Will you come to my house and groom my dog there?
A:   Not at this time. Please contact me to arrange pickup and delivery.

Q:  My dog’s teeth need cleaning.  Do you offer that service?
A:   No, I do not. Dog’s teeth cannot be properly cleaned in one grooming session. If your dog has smelly breath or problem teeth, they should be brushed at home once per day. If the teeth have become coated with hard tartar, scraping it off can also remove enamel, which leaves the dog’s teeth unprotected and at risk for more damage. Scaling of the teeth (aka removing tartar) is considered a medical procedure and should be performed by a veterinarian.

Q:  I have been told that my dog tried to bite his/her last groomer.  Will you groom my dog?
A:   This depends. If the dog is outright vicious, I cannot groom him/her. The dog should have specialized training for the aggression, and be groomed by your veterinarian until they can tolerate a normal grooming session. If your dog is reasonably well-behaved, but balks at having their nails trimmed or ears cleaned, I can work around this, but need extra time because I am a gentle groomer and will not pin down your dog to complete the grooming. Please contact me so we can discuss your situation and work on a plan for grooming your dog.

Q:  Do you remove ticks?
A:   No. Ticks are very dangerous, both to humans and dogs. Although I am fully trained in the tick removal procedure, the risk to other dogs in my salon is too great. I feel that tick removal should be done at a vet’s office only. If I find ticks on your dog, the grooming session is halted and he/she will be quarantined in a safe and quiet location in a separate area of my house, and you will be contacted immediately and requested to take your dog out of the salon as soon as possible, preferably straight to your vet.

Q:  Is my dog at risk from getting bitten by another dog or contracting something from another dog in your salon?
A:   Absolutely not. I do not believe in letting strange dogs interact with each other, no matter how friendly or healthy they seem. Each dog is groomed individually, then placed in a secure kennel (or play area) on their own. All of the equipment is then sterilized (including the tub, grooming table, and individual water dishes) before the next dog is groomed. The only exception I will make to this rule is if you have two family dogs who love each other and you bring them in together. If these dogs are housed in the same kennel, it can sometimes help them relax more by having their long-time companion at their side.

Q:  Can I stay and watch my dog being groomed?
A:   Unfortunately, no. Firstly, for insurance reasons, I am not allowed to have people in the salon during the grooming session. Secondly, your dog and the other dogs will act differently when someone else is in the room. Although I realize some dogs have had bad experiences at a groomer’s, and this makes the owner nervous to leave them out of sight, I am confident that you will soon see that I am a loving, patient groomer who will look after your dog as one of my own. Also, I have future plans to install cameras in my salon and provide you with a link to a website that allows you to watch what is going on at any time during your dog’s grooming session, thus providing you with peace of mind and some entertainment. Stay tuned!
